Why consider a "Bargain" ISP?
Are you going on vacation or staying in RV parks and need a dialup access when you're away from home - one that has access almost everywhere?

Do you have Cable or DSL - but need a backup for those *rare* times that your high speed connection goes down?

Do you need dialup access to check your email when you travel away from home on business?

Do you worry about your privacy when using a Static broadband IP address that points straight to your home?

Do you use and support your local ISP for dialup - but want a cheap way to get online if your ISP has a bad day or you go out of town?

There is no reason to pay $20 per month (or more!) just to have dialup access as a backup or when you travel!

Many ISPs are starting to offer very low cost dialup plans targeted to people like you. Generally, these plans have reduced features to keep the price low:

  • Limited number of hours per month
  • Technical support costs extra or is otherwise limited in scope or hours of operation
  • May include only access and 1 email - no web space, Usenet, or extra email accounts. If you don't need them, why pay for things you don't need?
We are fairly sure that the numbers you will see in a moment are local to you, BUT...

PLEASE check with the company that sends the bill for your local phone service and confirm that they agree that the access number for your new ISP is a local, non-metered call.

Some of the reasons the phone call may not be local include:

  • If you are a customer of an independent phone company (Citizen's, Alltel, Frontier, Sprint, Verizon North or a local phone co-op), your local phone company is not required by federal law to provide equal local access to ISPs
  • In some areas, the numbers are local only if you belong to a special rate plan or extended calling area plan
  • If you switched your local phone service to a CLEC, your free local service area may be different than what is printed in your phone book.

Failing to confirm that the access number is a local non-metered call could cost you hundreds of dollars for using a "cheap" ISP in the wrong town.

In order to locate the low cost ISPs that have a local access point for you, we need the area code AND the first three (the prefix) of the phone number you normally will use to dial into this ISP.
